EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. Bubby Brister Jekyll had his chances. Boomer Esiason Hide! had his chances. Clearly, the New York Jets' present leaves plenty to be desired. Start with hope and work up from there.

Jets fans, swayed by the understandable sentiment that nothing could be worse than the status quo, have been clamoring for a glimpse of the future. When coach Rich Kotite obliged Sunday afternoon by unveiling Glenn Foley at quarterback in a game that meant as much as a Jets game can, the crowd of 61,462 erupted with cheers.

``I had to pull the trigger,'' Kotite would explain later, without the advice of an attorney.

Don't play pool with a guy named ``Fats.'' Don't eat at a restaurant named ``Mom's.'' Don't pull over for a cop named ``Fuhrman.'' And don't under any circumstances let the Jets …
